Following up on my last post about the current state of Social Networks , I just wrote a post for my agency blog as mentioned and you can read it here:
” The role of private social networks in a Facebook world “
My thoughts were sparked from the excellent masuhup event I attended last week.
Mashup is interesting in that its primarily for investors and entrepreneurs working in the...
This was destined to be one of those ‘draft posts’ that I leave in various stage of completion in my gmail, or on Evernote and most don’t see the light of day.
But attendance at the (realy interesting) Mashup ‘Private Social Networking’ event last week got me to complete this.. and also start a more detailed post for my Agency’s blog (coming this week).
So, my...

Is sponsored blogging a good thing for brands to... →
Not so much a post but a question that I’ve been thinking about..
There’s a lot of conflicting views on the web on this subject and I would be interested in the views of people here: Is it ‘unethical’ to accept payment for a review or opinion piece on your blog, or to mention products ?
Or is the opposite true – a clear disclaimer that a full post or micro tweet is sponsored is...
Sharing music →
So I’m sat talking via facebook with my son at the other end of the country about the track listings for his first two internet radio shows. At the same time I’m updating a Spotify list for him so listeners can listen anytime to the track played but also check out what else that band has by way of back catalogue. And this reminds me how much music sharing and recommendations have...
Another word on Social CRM - as a punter →
I attended the SocialCRM panel debate at Social Media Week London (#smwldn). See the last post for some quick tweeted insights from the event and also have a look at the vid for the event :

I wrote a longer piece about it on my agency blog (http://www.brassagency.com/blog/the-social-crm-panel-at-social-media-week) and as I...
I attended a handful of the talks and panel debates at last week’s Social Media Week, London (#smwldn).
In a nutshell - we’re in flux, lots of opportunity to succeed if you ‘do it right’. Lots of pitfalls if you blunder in and get stuff wrong. Honest mistakes are ok, getting it wrong via cynical impulses are clearly not. Longer blog posts will appear via my agency website...
sound bites from Social Media Week London #smwldn →
I’m off to Social Media Week for a big chunk of next week and I’ll be tweeting and blogging from there at different stages. (See http://socialmediaweek.org/london/ if you haven’t yet got tickets. If you are outside the UK the site details all the international events running as well0.
I’ve also been following the BBC radio 4 programme ‘the Secret History of Social...

Tha Gods Facebook Logo - with evolving graphics
I noticed on my facebook stream last week that an old colleague (and mate) Jonny (known as Jay__Dub in his musical circles) has just setup a new radio station, in facebook, called Tha Gods. (http://www.facebook.com/ThaGods)
I’m not a hardcore genre fan (though I do like a lot of what they play) so I’m not writing...

ungood AR →
Muse are selling their latest tour programme with the USP of being the worlds first to feature Augmented Reality. Which is a neat thing to be able to claim (worlds first anything is always a point of interest). But it is also (to use the Orwellian theme of their Resistance Tour) an ‘ungood’ experience. Not quite doubleplus ungood - but nor far off it. The stage (in real world) setup...

App or no App? →
There’s been a big (quassi heated) debate in the office over the last couple of days about how useful or indeed how damaging Apps are re the ethos of the web.. to generate original content, to share , to debate, to cross link .. to have an open landscape in which to roam and interact with everyone.
By Apps we’re talking Apps that use content / copy / news / rather than Apps that take...
Social Media and the Arts – Mikron Theatre Company →
Okay - this is probably the longest post I’ve written. That’s because it’s actually part interview, part case study (of sorts). If you stick with it, I hope that it makes for interesting reading, particularly if you are just getting into social media / digital marketing and more so if you are involved in an arts organisation.
How has social media helped a small arts...
Just a quick post to say I’m going to be on one of the panels at Hubbub 2010 - in the day 1 ‘future of marketing’ stream.
Not sure yet about the full list of panelists or specific topic areas although I do know that part of that will be around augmented reality and marketing as Matt Trubow from Augmented Experience is leading that.
It should be a well run, packed event judging...

Artisan Advertising →
My friend Mike is a self proclaimed Luddite. He told me the other night , in a small french town square, over a lovely meal; that he doesn’t believe in advertising. (note : Although he has relied on it for years to promote his theatre and jazz festival events…) His reasoning is that, if a business has to rely on advertising it either (a) isn’t good enough to have word of...
post for our new agency →
okay, so this blog is not affiliated to my agency - it is my own view on things and I don’t use it as a sales channel BUT it isn’t everyday that an agency re-brands and relaunches and it’s been an exciting time for us these last few days. Part of that excitement revolved around a shiny new website packed with lovely things - one of which is the blog, in which I just posted on the...

I’ve got a lot of commute time but as I drive I can’t read (book, phone, laptop etc) or stare out the window (that would be just plain dangerous). But I can quell some of that it’s-all-moving-really-fast-must-keep-up feeling everyone in marketing surely has with new tech / media / platform...

Seems like the digital Industry (UK anyway) is going through an introspective phase in the last few days. Last week it was the Drum highlighting a forthcoming event with “do Agencies need suits”.
http://www.thedrum.co.uk/news/2010/06/24/14429-do-agencies-still-need-suits-join-the-debate/
There will be lots of reasons for and against given - and whatever your start or end position ,...
